(PERTH COUNTY, ON) The Perth County OPP is half way through its 2011 Spring Seatbelt Campaign and the numbers indicated that some drivers still fail to understand the importance of wearing a seatbelt.
As of Monday morning April 18, 2011, Perth County OPP officers checked a total of 4,787 vehicles and have charged 36 people with seatbelt violations. As a result, these individuals have received a ticket with an attached fine of $240 and two demerit points.
As in previous campaigns, officers are also discovering other violations as they are stopping motorists for seatbelt violations. On Friday April 15, 2011 shortly after 1 p.m. an OPP officer in Listowel observed a mini van on Inkerman St. E. whose female driver was not wearing her seatbelt. The driver was found to be under suspension, and was driving the vehicle with no currently validated permit. The 57 year old Municipality of North Perth resident has to appear in court on June 14, 2011 to answer these charges as well as the seatbelt charge.
The Perth County OPP is continuing to check for seatbelt compliance during this Seatbelt Campaign. Their ultimate goal is to have everyone wear their seatbelts and that all children are properly restrained in approved car seats. Why gamble with your life and that of your children?
