(HANOVER, ON) -On April 6, 2014 at 5:51 a.m., members of the Hanover Police Service (HPS) responded to a report of a disturbance in an apartment located at 476 9th Avenue in town of Hanover. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man deceased in the apartment with obvious signs of trauma.
At the request of HPS, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) under the direction of Acting Detective Inspector Heidi Stewart commenced the investigation. Members of the OPP West Region Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services assisted in the investigation.
Police have confirmed the identity of the victim as 51-year-old Richard CONNOR from 476 9th Avenue in Hanover. The victim and assailant were known to each other.
Police have charged 25-year-old Matthew LANTZ from 353-A 10th Avenue in Hanover Ontario with one count of First Degree Murder. He is scheduled to appear in Walkerton Court at 2:00 p.m. today to answer to the charge.
