(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Thursday afternoon April 21, 2011 Perth County OPP officers were called to the Food Basics store on Wallace Ave. North in Listowel. It was reported that food items had been tampered with.
Investigation revealed that needles had been found in fruit and meat. As a result, the Listowel Food Basics store has been closed as a safety precaution.
Area residents are urged to carefully check and inspect your food items when handling and preparing them for consumption.
The Perth County OPP Criminal Investigations unit is investigating this incident and are working closely with the store management and The Canadian Food Inspection Agency. They have also contacted other Listowel merchants to try and ascertain if this is an isolated case.
