Stolen Vehicle Recovered – 12 Year Old Facing Charges

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – On April 13, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information regarding a stolen vehicle from the Toronto area possibly travelling through the Northumberland area.

At approximately 6:00pm, a theft of gas was reported in the Quinte West area with the suspect vehicle description matching that of the stolen vehicle from Toronto. OPP officers observed the stolen vehicle on Highway 401 in the Port Hope area and a Suspect Apprehension Pursuit (SAP) was initiated.

Officers from Northumberland OPP and the OPP Highway Enforcement Team effected a successful termination of the pursuit on County Road 2 near the Town of Newtonville in the Municipality of Clarington. No injuries resulted from the pursuit to either the public or officers involved.

A 12-year old young person from the Toronto area was arrested and has been charged with:

Theft of a Motor Vehicle
Theft Under $5,000,
Flight From Police,
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Breach of Recognizance

This young person, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) was held for a Bail Hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Cobourg on Monday April 14, 2014.
