(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Sunday April 20, 2014 a Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 north of Cobourg when a vehicle was observed at an excessive rate of speed.
The officer stopped 2003 red Infiniti near the eastbound off ramp at Burnham Street for 160 km/hour in a posted 100 km/hour zone. The officer entered into an investigation into the male driver’s sobriety and found the driver to be over the legal blood alcohol limit of .08 as a result of the roadside screening device. The male was arrested and taken to a neighbouring police service for further tests which resulted in passing readings.
A further investigation into the male’s driving status determined that he was disqualified from driving from a previous court conviction.
Glenn Robert ANDERSON, 44 from Cobourg, Ontario was released on a promise to appear and an undertaking given to an officer in charge for Wednesday May 21, 2014 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg for two counts of driving disqualified under the Criminal Code. He was also issued a summons for the same date for race motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act. As a result of the driving disqualification, the accused’s vehicle has been impounded for 180 days.
