(Huron East, ON) – At approximately 9:45 am on June 1st, 2011 an elderly female attempted to cross Main Street South at the intersection of Main Street and John Street while operating her personal mobility device. She was travelling east to west. At the same time, a pickup truck on John Street facing east was preparing to make a left turn onto Main Street. When a break in northbound and southbound traffic occurred, the truck began to execute its turn at the same time that the woman was crossing. The truck struck the woman in her scooter.
Ruth RAPSON (82) of Seaforth was taken to the Seaforth Hospital and was then air lifted to the London Health Sciences Center where she later died from her injuries.
OPP Technical Collision Investigators were called to the scene and the intersection was closed for several hours as they gathered evidence.
