(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Monday July 18, 2011, around 3 p.m. two people were walking near the intersection of Ontario Rd. and St.David St. in Mitchell when they observed a wallet and its contents strewn across the road and sidewalk.
The contents and money (consisting of large denominations) were gathered up and placed back in the wallet. The young people immediately proceeded to the OPP Detachment in Mitchell and explained where and how they found the wallet. They wondered if they may have missed some money as the wind could have blown it around. An OPP officer went back to the area where the wallet had been found and located an additional $100 bill.
From the documentation inside the wallet the owner was identified. He was immediately contacted by police and attended at the OPP Detachment. He could not believe that the wallet, money and all contents were accounted for. He explained that he had just picked up cash at the bank in Mitchell, placed his wallet on the back of his vehicle and inadvertently drove away. The man said “it blows my mind, that there are still honest people like thisâ€Â.
The young people, an 18 year old male and a 16 year old female from the Municipality of West Perth are to be commended for their actions.
