Traffic Stop Results in Numerous Charges

On Thursday July 3rd, 2014 at approximately 2:15am, Peterborough County OPP was conducting patrols for a reported possible impaired driver. Officers observed the suspect vehicle traveling at 145km/h in a posted 80km/h zone on Highway 7 in the Township of Asphodel Norwood. The vehicle was stopped and a subsequent investigation resulted in the following: Charged is: Fouad Al-Assaad, 33 years of age of Scarborough, Ontario

Section 253(1) (a) Criminal Code of Canada – “Impaired Driving”

Section 253(1) (b) Criminal Code of Canada – “Over 80 Mgs.”

Section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act – “Race a Motor Vehicle”

Section 44.1(3) Highway Traffic Act – “Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Content Greater Than 0”

Mr. Al-Assaad is to appear at Peterborough Provincial Court on August 14th, 2014.
