(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West OPP Street Crime Unit made six arrests in the stolen and damaged Canada flag occurrence in Batawa. During the overnight hours on July 1st, 2014, approximately 40 Canada flags were stolen and flag poles damaged in the village of Batawa. The total value of the stolen and damaged property was estimated at $2000. The OPP investigation has led to the arrest of four adults, including three males and one female. Two young persons, including one male and one female, have also been arrested and charged. The charges laid against the accused persons include: obstruct police, mischief under $5000, theft under $5000, and possession of stolen property. All of the Canada flags have been recovered. The accused persons have been released on a promise to appear with a court date in Belleville in August 2014.
