Barrie Police were called to a Gunn St address for a domestic dispute where the victim’s common law boyfriend (suspect) had been drinking all day and became violent.
Police learned the suspect had a fit of anger, threw an object at a 30 gallon glass fish tank, causing the glass to break and all water and fish draining onto the floor.
The complainant called 911 at which point the suspect left the home by stealing her car, leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
In a karmatic turn of events, a Barrie Police unit on general patrol observed the stolen vehicle run a red light and subsequently stopped the car and finding the driver had been drinking alcohol.
The male was transported to the Barrie Police Service and supplied breath samples that were slightly below the legal limit.
A 41 year old Barrie man was arrested/charged for:
Take auto without consent
Mischief under $5000 (fish tank)
Drive motor vehicle with no licence
Careless driving
Breach of probation
As a happy end note, Police were able assist the victim with locating a temporary fish tank and all the exotic fish were saved.
