On Sunday July 6th, 2014 at approximately 9:00am, witnesses observed a male in distress approximately 200 meters off shore from Hiawatha First Nations Reserve. Witnesses attempted to rescue the male who was alone in the waters of Rice Lake without success.
Peterborough County OPP was dispatched to the scene along with the OPP Helicopter and the Underwater Search and Rescue Unit. After a short search, the males’ body was recovered.
The deceased has been identified as: Thomas Gangloff, 60 years of age of Buffalo, New York.
Mr. Gangloff was not wearing a life jacket at the time of this occurrence.
