(MATHESON, ON) – Members of the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment continue to monitor a road closure on Hwy 101 east of Matheson near the Quebec border.
Washouts caused by flooding in the area on Sunday evening have resulted in a road closure that remains in place until further notice.
Significant progress has caused the affected roadway to now be east of the Holt Mine Project which allows for access to the mine but not to the Quebec border as of yet.
The road closure now affects Hwy 101, approximately 55 kilometers east of Matheson, between the Quebec border and the Holt Mine Project which is east of Hwy 672 (the former Harker-Holloway Road)
Traffic to and from Quebec on Hwy 101 remains impassible.
Motorists wishing to enter or return from Quebec must do so via routes in Kirkland Lake as no other detours are available.
The road closure situation is being closely monitored by MTO and OPP personnel.
