Oh and please don’t tell my parents. The new twist to this one is the person asks for $1000‘s of dollars in gift cards to be purchased. This scam continues because the bad guys are getting money from people. If your grandson is really in trouble and you don’t tell your kids eventually they will find out. Before you try to help anyone make the calls you need to make to ensure the story is true. I bet it is not. Save your money don’t give it away to fraudsters.

Over the past few weeks officers of the Saugeen Shores Police Service have been aggressively patrolling Saugeen Shores implementing a “Lock it or Lose it` crime prevention program. Officers are out on foot in your neighbourhood overnight checking your vehicles and looking for suspicious people going through your cars. Officers are leaving a Lock it or Lose it card on your vehicle letting you know we were there and if your vehicle was locked, valuables were visible or if you were secure. To date officers have checked 1066 vehicles. Of those 168 were unlocked, 5 were unlocked with keys in the ignition, 15 had the windows open, 64 had valuables in plain view and 814 passed inspection.
After reading this past press release and hearing that we have some people active in the area entering vehicles, please lock your vehicle. This type of offence is 100 % preventable by locking and securing your vehicle. I have been policing here only 17 years and only once do I recall a window being smashed out of a vehicle to steal something from inside and that time there was a laptop on the seat. Please help yourself and help your local police service out, lock your vehicles and close and lock your garage and homes when you are not there.
We have caught two people for these offences but we do not believe they are responsible for all the thefts.
