(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON.) – Members of the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a collision between a cyclist and a pedestrian on the sidewalk off Government Road West near Market Street in Kirkland Lake. The cyclist one of a group of three was eastbound on the sidewalk when he came into collision with the pedestrian walking westbound. The victim a 67 year-old male was knocked to the ground and received minor injuries. The cyclist immediately left the scene and failed to assist the injured victim. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on the 11th of July, 2014.
Police remind cyclists that the Town of Kirkland Lake by-law 02-047 states that no person, twelve years of age or older, shall not ride a bicycle on any sidewalk in the Town of Kirkland Lake. Any person found to be in contravention of this by-law can receive a fine of $50.
