(KIRKLAND LAKE, ON.) – Members of the Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a local man with Race a Motor Vehicle and Drive Over .08. The charges stem from a vehicle observed by police to be travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 66 in Eby Township. The driver was clocked at a speed of 155 Km/Hr in a posted 80 Km/Hr zone. Once the vehicle was stopped further investigation led to the driver being arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Under provisions of section 172 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario the driver had his driver’s licence suspended and his vehicle impounded each for seven days. The incident occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. on July 16, 2014.
Charged is Micheal GILBERT age 39 of Kirkland Lake. He is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Kirkland Lake on September 2 for the excessive speeding charge and the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on September 25, 2014 for the Drive over .08 offence.
