(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West OPP conducted marine patrols of the Trent River and Bay of Quinte this weekend. Numerous routine checks of vessels for safety compliance and alcohol were done by officers with one operator being charged for not having the proper safety equipment on board.
The OPP reminds boaters that having the proper safety equipment in your vessel is required by law as well as a proper certified life jacket for each person on board.
Boaters caught drinking and boating in Ontario face similar consequences to drinking and driving. This includes power boats, canoes, kayaks, sailboats and personal watercraft.
Officers of the Quinte West OPP marine unit will be patrolling the local waterways this season educating and enforcing Ontario’s boating laws. Boaters are reminded to ensure their vessel has all proper safety equipment so that they have a safe and enjoyable boating season.
