DRIVERS EXITING WRONG WAY OFF HIGHWAY CHARGED

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON) – On July 23, 2014 members of Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were busy responding to Highway 401 westbound closure due to a collision.

As a result of Highway 401 closure, there were delays for travellers. Exit ramps were still open and an Emergency Detour Route (EDR) was in place allowing for travellers to exit the Highway in a safe and orderly manner.

On this date, 6 drivers were charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following:

Backing on roadway – divided highway.

All 6 drivers were found to be exiting the Highway via on ramps creating a potentially dangerous situation.

OPP is doing everything it can to make our roads safe and are asking vehicle drivers to take responsibility for their personal safety, that of their families and others travelling on the roads. Buckle up, don’t drink and drive, drive according to the road and weather conditions allowing you extra time to get where you are going and arrive safely.
