BE SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE

(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) – Every weekend in Wellington County is busy; however this weekend will be noticeably busier. The annual Fergus Truck Show and the Hillside Festival at Guelph Lake will be taking place. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind residents and visitors to be safe and responsible whether it is at home, on highways, waterways, trails or parks.

Wellington County OPP will be proactive this weekend with R.I.D.E. programs, and extra patrols on the highways and waterways. A few simple rules to follow can make the weekend safer:

Take your time when travelling to a destination and be courteous to fellow travelers.
Do not text while driving and wear the seatbelts.
Impaired Driving by alcohol or drugs puts us all at risk; don’t do it.
On the waterways, wear personal floatation devices (PDF) and have an emergency kit.
If you are on a trail or in a park; let someone know where you are going, if possible carry a cell phone, and bring water.

The OPP will be looking for a partnership with every motorist, boater, and trail user to be safe and enjoy the weekend.
