(DRYDEN, ON) – Officers with the Ignace Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment participated with Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) Conservation Officers on July 23 and July 24, 2014 to conduct aircraft patrols on several isolated lakes north of Ignace. This was an MNR-led initiative and officers were checking boaters for safe boating compliance, alcohol compliance and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act compliance.
OPP and MNR officers utilized a float plane to access Sturgeon Lake, Grid Iron Lake, Shikey Lake, Gosling Lake, Mattawa Lake, Seseganaga Lake, Ten Mile Lake, Kawaweogama Lake, Allenwater Bridge, Lake of the Bays and Kukukus Lake. Officers checked eleven boats and charged four persons for failing to have Personal Flotation Devices (PFD’s).
The OPP is reminding boaters that safety on the water is paramount and that everyone in a boat must have an approved personal floatation device (lifejacket).
