VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO SEVERAL CHARGES

(ORILLIA, ON) – On July 29th, 2014 at approximately 4:30 p.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Orillia Street Crime Unit (SCU), working in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance – Tobacco Enforcement, conducted a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 12 in Oro-Medonte Township. The joint investigation was in relation to the sale of contraband cigarettes. As a result of the traffic stop, an arrest and search of a male party also resulted in several criminal charges.

William THOMPSON, 63 years old of Severn Township has been charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana over 30 grams, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine, Possession of a Schedule I Substance – OxyContin, Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Marihuana, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 dollars and Failing to Comply with Probation Order.

He was held for a Bail Hearing and will be appearing in Orillia court on August 05th, 2014.

Provincial Offence charges were also laid in relation to the possession and selling of contraband cigarettes.
