Dispute Results in Weapons Charges

On August 2nd, 2014 at approximately 9:00pm, Peterborough County OPP responded to a report of a motor vehicle being shot on Crown Land, south of Gooderham in the Township of Trent Lake. The victim advised he was camping with friends when an unknown male approached him about his camp site. Both parties became involved in a verbal disagreement. Shortly after, the victim was away from his camp site when he heard 3 rifles shots in the area of his campsite. The victim returned to find gunshots to the radiator of his truck.

As a result of a subsequent investigation, charged is:

Matthew Mahar, age – 46 years of Selwyn Township

Section 88 Criminal Code of Canada – “Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose”

Section 430(3) Criminal Code of Canada -“Mischief over $5000.00”

Section 86(1) Criminal Code of Canada – “Careless Use of a Firearm”

Mr. Mahar is scheduled to appear at Peterborough Provincial Court on September 11th, 2014.
