(SAUGEEN FIRST NATION, ON) – On August 5th at 3:32a.m. a Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling French Bay Road, Saugeen First Nation.
The officer observed a Plymouth Neon weaving on the roadway and driving erratically. The vehicle was stopped and the officer determined that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drug.
The female driver, 59 years old from Markdale, was arrested and transported to the Bruce Peninsula OPP detachment for further tests.
While at detachment, the driver was brought before a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). A DRE is an officer specially trained to determine what type of substance(s) the person has in their body and to what extent that substance has impaired ability to drive a motor vehicle.
The female was charged with “driving while ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugâ€Â, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. She was later released from custody and provided a first appearance court date of August 18th, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton.
