Five people are facing charges in separate cases of impaired driving investigations over the past weekend. Citizens are encouraged to call 9-1-1 if they spot a suspected impaired driver. This is treated as a life-threatening emergency.
On Friday August 8 at 4:35pm Sgt Don Francis was stationary near the intersection of Highway 17 and Castleford Dr in Horton Township. A driver approached the officer and advised they were concerned about the driving of another vehicle. The vehicle was pointed out to the officer and he followed the suspect vehicle. The driver committed several driving offences and was stopped on Julie Lane in Horton Township. The male driver had been drinking and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. Following further breath tests at the detachment Kevin COULAS 60 of Horton was charged with driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on August 27.
On Saturday August 9 at 10:20pm officers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision in the ditch on Lochwinnoch Rd in Horton Township. Upon arrival the female driver was identified and had been drinking. After failing a roadside alcohol screening tests she was arrested and taken to the detachment for further breath tests. Following the investigation Ashley AITCHISON 19 of Ottawa was charged with driving over 80mgs. She was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on September 10. Provincial Constable Raul Pasta Junior led the investigation.
On Sunday August 10 at 12:36am Provincial Constable Colleen McGrath stopped a vehicle on Highway 17near Miller Rd in McNab Braeside Township. During the course of the investigation the male driver was found to have been drinking. Following breath tests at the detachment Jeffrey BROWN 45 of Laurentian Valley Township was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on August 27.
On Sunday August 10 at 12:46am officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver currently in the drive thru at the MacDonald’s restaurant in Arnprior. Officers attended and located a female driver in a black pickup truck who had been drinking. She failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was arrested. Following further breath tests at the detachment Tasha SOUTHGATE 25 of Mississippi Mills Township was charged with driving over 80mgs. She was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on September 10. Provincial Constable Ryan Besner investigated.
On Sunday August 10 at 2:18am Provincial Constable Kyle Mask was dealing with a motorist stopped on Rafting Rd in Whitewater Region Township when a vehicle accelerated towards the officer. The vehicle was stopped and the male driver was spoken to. The male had been drinking and was arrested for impaired driving. Following breath tests at the detachment John MOORE 19 of Petawawa was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on August 27.
