(NIPIGON, ON.) -On August 24, 2014 at approximately 4:50 a.m. members of the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 and 17 in the Township of Shuniah. The male driver of a westbound Sport Utility Vehicle drove off of the roadway and entered the north side ditch. Officers arrived at the scene and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.
As a result of police investigation, 22 year old Nicholas BAXTER of Thunder Bay, Ontario has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 milligrams of Blood Alcohol content contrary to the Criminal Code. The driver was further charged with one count of Possession of Marijuana and one count of Possession of Other Drugs contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.
The male is to appear in Nipigon Court on October 7th, 2014 to answer to these charges.
