(NEW TECUMSETH) On August 5th, 2014, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment,
Ontario Provincial (OPP) Street Crime Unit, commenced an investigation pertaining to
the theft of large quantities of diesel fuel being stolen from commercial and agricultural
vehicles during the night time hours. As a result of Street Crime Unit investigations a
description of a suspect vehicle was obtained.
It was determined that similar occurrences had occurred throughout Peel and York
Regions, as well as Caledon OPP area.
During the morning of Wednesday, August 27th, 2014, the suspect vehicle was located
being driven on Highway 7, in Peel Region. With the assistance of Peel Regional Police
and Caledon Detachment OPP, the vehicle was stopped. Two males were subsequently
arrested. The vehicle was searched incident to arrest and 5, 1000 litre tanks were found
in the cargo area, along with all necessary fuel pumps to siphon the gas. Also
numerous break in tools and clothing to allow the suspects to appear as maintenance
personnel were also located.
Facing numerous criminal charges are 31yr old Sandeep Gill and 31 yr old Gurpreet
Singh, both from Brampton.
Charges include: Theft, Theft of Credit Card, Use Stolen Credit Card, Possession of
Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of the Proceeds of Crime, Possession of
Break-In Instruments, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin), two counts
of Breach of Undertaking.
As this investigation is ongoing, further arrests and charges are expected.
