(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a number of thefts from motor vehicles in the Township of Middlesex Centre and two things jump out as they complete their investigations.
“We have had five incidents reported to police in regards to thefts from motor vehicles in Middlesex Centre between August 30, 2014 and September 1, 2014. In each incident, either the vehicle was left unlocked or their window was smashed to grab valuable items left out in plain view†advises Provincial Constable Laurie Houghton.
Police want the public to know that an ounce of prevention can cause a lot of grief down the road. The best way to prevent someone from stealing items from your vehicle is to lock your vehicle and keep items out of it or at the very least, keep it out of plain sight.
The following are incidents that were reported to police over the weekend:
1. Theft from motor vehicle -Kilworth Park Drive: Sometime between 1:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on August 30, 2014, unknown suspect(s) smashed the window of a vehicle. An inventory of stolen items is currently being obtained.
2. Theft from motor vehicle – Victoria Street: Sometime between August 26, 2014 and September 2, 2014 unknown suspect(s) stole a radio from an unlocked vehicle.
3. Theft from motor vehicle/garage – Victoria Street: Sometime between 10:00 p.m. on August 30, 2014 and 9:00 a.m. on August 31, 2014 unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked garage and proceeded to an unlocked vehicle and stole a quantity of alcohol and cigars.
4. Theft from motor vehicle – Parkland Place: Sometime prior to August 30, 2014, unknown suspect(s) smashed the window of a vehicle and stole a GPS
5. Theft from motor vehicle – Sunningdale Road West: Sometime in the afternoon of September 1, 2014 unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked vehicle and stole a quantity of cash and cellphone.
Middlesex OPP officers have increased their patrols in the affected areas and Middlesex OPP Auxiliary officers have been assisting by canvassing door to door throughout various neighbourhoods providing literature and informing the community how to protect themselves from becoming a victim of property crime.
The public is reminded to contact police immediately should they observe suspicious activity in their neighbourhood. Make note of anything distinctive about the suspicious person(s) and/or vehicle and report the information right away.
