DRUG CHARGES

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the OPP with assistance from the Organized Crime and Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) Kenora Drug Unit and the Asset Forfeiture Unit have charged a Winnipeg man with drug related offences following a traffic stop on Saturday August 30, 2014.

Police conducted a traffic stop on the eastbound vehicle on Highway 17 west of Kenora around 10:40 am on Saturday. The investigation revealed the male driver to be in possession of marihuana and the driver was arrested and a search of the vehicle was conducted. The search located approximately 4 ½ pounds of marihuana, 24.6 grams of cannabis resin (oil) and an amount of Canadian currency. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be around $11,000.

As a result of this investigation, 62 year old Van Son (Jon) TRAN of Winnipeg has been charged with Trafficking a Schedule II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana under 3 Kilograms contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substances Act (CDSA), Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Under 3 Kilograms-2 counts (sec 5(2) CDSA) and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on September 5, 2014.

Two Alberta men have also been charged with drug charges following an unrelated incident. On Monday September 1, 2014 police stopped a vehicle on Highway 17A around 3:00 pm. The police investigation led to the arrest of the two occupants and a search of the vehicle. Police located approximately half a pound of marihuana in the vehicle. The street value is estimated at $2,400.

As a result of this investigation 23 year old Ethan KETT of Red Deer, Alberta (AB) and 22 year old Shawn STOCKLEY of Edmonton, AB have been charged with Trafficking a Schedule II Substance-Cannabis Marihuana Under 3 Kilograms (sec 5(1) CDSA) and Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (sec 5(2) CDSA). They are to appear in Kenora Court on October 9, 2014 to answer to the charge.
