Herbert BROOM – Drunk Driving

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – An 82 year old male driver is facing charges of Care & Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired and Care & Control – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol following a traffic stop on September 7, 2014.

Just before 1:30 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a motor vehicle in the laneway of a Victoria Street residence in Crediton. The officer noticed the brakes lights were still activated and it appeared someone was in the driver’s seat. The officer approached the vehicle to check on the driver and found the driver sleeping in the driver’s seat. The officer spotted several beer bottles inside the vehicle and when he spoke with the driver he noted the driver to be displaying several signs of impairment by alcohol.

The officer formed the opinion the driver was in care and control of the Chevrolet Trailblazer and he was impaired by alcohol. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported back to Detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples registered over the legal limit.

82 year old Herbert BROOM from South Huron has been charged with Care & Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired and Care & Control – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on October 6, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension.
