Police were called to a head on collision yesterday afternoon September 9th, 2014 around 3:43pm on Highway #3 just west of Heritage Line, Malahide Township.
At the time of the collision a 2006 Grey Honda car, being operated by a 29 year old Aylmer, ON woman was traveling west on Highway #3. 2006 Grey Pontiac car , being operated by a 30 year old Aylmer, ON man was travel east on Highway #3. The Honda car crossed over the centre line and collided head on with the Pontiac car. Both vehicles then came to rest against a guardrail on the south side of the roadway. The collision occurred on a straight and level section of dry roadway.
Malahide Fire Services and Thames Emergency Medical Services were on scene to assist. The female driver of the Honda had to be extricated from the vehicle by Malahide Fire Services and transported to hospital with minor injuries. She was later released. The male driver of the Pontiac was also transported to hospital with minor injuries and later released.
Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police investigation revealed that seatbelts were in use by both parties and alcohol and distracted driving were not a factor.
Police have charged the driver of the Honda car, Rachel Jennifer THIESSEN age 29 from Aylmer, ON with;
Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Highway # 3 was closed for approximately 1.5 hours to facilitate the investigation and clean up.
