YOUTH INVOLVED IN SUSPECT APPREHENSION PURSUIT

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were involved in a Suspect Apprehension Pursuit (SAP) on September 20, 2014.

At approximately 3:30 am, police were on general patrol on Lakeview Drive and observed a westbound vehicle driving erratically. Police conducted a traffic stop in Keewatin and the suspect vehicle pulled over for police. As officers approached the vehicle, the vehicle sped up and continued travelling westbound. A pursuit ensued and police attempted a rolling stop. The suspect vehicle continued travelling on Highway 17 westbound.

At that point, officers discontinued the pursuit due to public safety. There was damage to the suspect vehicle and two police cruisers. One of the officers involved in the incident sustained minor injuries.

As a result of the OPP investigation, a 13-year-old male from Shoal Lake First Nation has been charged with Section 249.1, Flight While Pursued by a Peace Officer and two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Section 249 (1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The investigation is continuing.
