(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is investigating a theft at an Erie Avenue, Port Rowan, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
With the Ontario Municipal Election soon to arrive on October 27, 2014, those seeking election to Council are posting their candidacy throughout Norfolk County by way of signs to advertise.
On Tuesday, September 30, 2014, police received a call from a concerned resident after approximately 24 election signs went missing from the Long Point Bay Retirement Village. The OPP have received a previous report of candidate signs being either stolen or damaged. This theft or damage is not specific to one particular candidate and has occurred within Norfolk County.
The OPP is continuing to investigate and would like to remind residents to be vigilant in their neighbourhoods to report such incidents to police immediately. Anyone taking election signs without authority or damaging signs could be criminally charged with theft under $5,000 or mischief under $5000, and have to attend court to answer to their charge.
