BUS PATROLLER TRAINING

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A new group of bus patrollers are now trained and ready to assist the drivers with the task of keeping everyone riding the bus safe.

Over the course of two days officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service and the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP teamed up with the Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) and the local bus companies to provide over 300 students with bus patroller training.

The students were required to write a test and then pass a practical exercise related to emergency situation evacuations. The information session is intended to provide the bus patrollers with the knowledge and confidence to react in an emergency situation.

“The students will be an extra set of eyes and ears for the drivers. The goal is to have these patrollers demonstrate acceptable behaviours while riding the bus and the hope is that they will be good role models”, stated P/C Carrie Lanning, community service officer with the OPP.
