Ricky THOMPSON – Drunk Driving On 401

(PORT HOPE, ON) – On October 03, 2014 at about 1:40pm Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of an erratic driver on Highway 401. Police located the vehicle travelling by the Wesleyville Rd area weaving between the lanes.

Officers stopped the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. Open liquor was observed in the vehicle. The male driver was arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests.

Ricky THOMPSON age 55 of Belleville is charged with impaired care & control and Over 80mg. THOMPSON was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 22, 2014.

Police rely on the public to report crime and impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently. If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired and intends on driving, do not let them drive.

Impaired driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada.
