(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is warning residents about fraudulent phone calls that are being received by several concerned residents from Norfolk County, Ontario addresses.
On Friday, October 17, 2014 at approximately 2:07 p.m., concerned residents contacted the OPP to report that they had received phone calls from an unknown male, demanding personal information.
The male suspect indicated that he was calling from the Canada Revenue Agency from Windsor, Ontario and was calling from phone number 1-705-242-3126. He informed the homeowners that a criminal investigation had been conducted and arrest warrants were being prepared. The male indicated that the OPP were going to attend the homeowners address or work place and arrest them for tax evasion, violation of Federal taxes and tax fraud if they didn’t comply with his requests.
The male then stated that they could take care of this issue by providing some personal information as well as their lawyer’s information and contact number. No information was provided to this unknown male and police are reminding all residents to be extremely vigilant if you received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency inquiring about personal information. These types of calls are designed to create anxiety and complete shock for the unsuspecting resident resulting in personal and financial information being disclosed.
