IMPAIRED DRIVERS

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a two people with impaired driving offences after two motor vehicle collisions on the weekend

On Friday October 17, 2014 shortly after 11:00 pm OPP responded to a two vehicle collision on Eighth Ave S in the City of Kenora. While speaking to the drivers, police determined one of them had been consuming alcohol. The driver registered a “Fail” on the roadside screening device and was arrested and transported for further tests.

As a result of this investigation, 49 year old Albert GIBBINS of Kenora has been charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle With More than .80 mg of Alcohol in 100 ml of Blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC) and Fail to Comply with Undertaking (section 145(3) CC). He was held for a bail hearing.

OPP responded to another call of a single motor vehicle collision on October 19, 2014 at approximately 10:40 pm. Police attended and located a vehicle in the ditch on Mackenzie Portage Road. Shortly after, a male was located and identified as the driver of the vehicle. Police determined the male had been consuming alcohol and he was arrested for impaired driving and transported for further tests.

As a result of this investigation, 38 year old Mohamed LAZREQ of Manitoba has been charged with Impaired Driving (section 253(1)(a) CC) and Fail or Refuse to Provide Breath Sample (section 254(5) CC). He is to appear in Kenora Court on December 4, 2014 to answer to the charges.
