(Rideau Lakes, ON.) – Officers of the Rideau Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are continuing with investigations where insecure vehicles in the Portland, Westport, and Newboro areas were entered and items stolen.
Sometime during the evening of the 23th and the 24th of October, and further into the weekend, numerous theft reports were received to officers of Rideau Lakes. Items reported taken included cash.
As residents continue to leave cars unlocked, with valuables accessible, thieves will continue to take advantage of those opportunities.
Vehicle owners are reminded to lock their vehicles and to close their windows and sun/moon roof. Both allow a thief a quick and quiet way to enter your vehicle. When you leave your vehicle, whenever possible take your valuables with you or keep them out of view.
Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
