(CAMPBELLFORD, ON) – On October 24, 2014 at about 11:30pm an alert citizen reported a possible impaired driver on Highway 401 in the Grafton area providing police with the licence plate. As a result of this information, officers located the vehicle in Campbellford. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the Campbellford OPP detachment for tests.
As a result of these tests, Jody NICHOLAS age 27 of St. Catherines is charged with Impaired Care & Control and Over 80mg. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on November 19, 2014.
(HAMILTON TWP, ON) – On October 24, 2014 at about 12 midnight a Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling in the area of Beavermeadow Rd in Hamilton Township. He observed an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) being operated and attempted to pull it over. The operator of the ATV fled from the officer who eventually blocked his path. The driver was arrested for attempting to evade police and eventually failed a roadside breath test. He was taken to the Cobourg OPP detachment for tests.
As a result of these tests, Mark BRADY age 41 of Baltimore is charged with Care & Control while Over 80mg, Flight from Police and other Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offences relating to no insurance or licence plate for the ATV. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on November 12, 2014.
(COLBORNE, ON) – On October 26, 2014 at about 8pm a citizen reported a car drifting between the lanes on Highway 401. The car was observed to exit at Colborne. Officers from Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located the driver in the car pool lot urinating beside his vehicle. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. He was taken to the Brighton OPP detachment for tests.
As a result of these tests, Martin QUEEN age 51 of Belleville is charged with Impaired Care & Control and Over 80mg. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on November 12, 2014.
The OPP recognize that the vast majority of drivers do understand that driving sober is the only way to end the numerous impaired driving related deaths that occur on Ontario roads every year. A/Insp. Rob Kobayashi the Northumberland Detachment Commander says, “it’s a relatively small number of drivers who still choose to get an impaired driving charge over the simpler and less costly solution of not getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. Unfortunately, the irresponsible behaviour of one driver can negatively affect the lives of manyâ€.
