(OTTAWA, ON) – On Friday, October 31, 2014 at approximately 11:50pm, officers of the Ottawa detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fatal collision on Highway 417, westbound near Nicholas Street.
Upon arrival, the investigation determined that a male pedestrian, on the highway, was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The vehicle fled the scene. The pedestrian, upon the initial contact, was struck by a second vehicle.
The driver, Fuad AHMED, 24 of Ottawa and his vehicle were later located by officers of the Ottawa Police Service. He was arrested for Fail to Remain contrary to the Criminal Code. He was released on a Promise to Appear to attend the Ontario Court of Justice, Ottawa on January 5, 2015.
The investigation is continuing with the assistance of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators. The identification of the victim is pending a post mortem examination, that is to be scheduled.
Highway 417 reopened at approximately 8:00am
