The Chatham-Kent police have arrested two people following a break and enter complaint yesterday.
Around 4:00 a.m. the pair broke into a garage on Park Avenue East in Chatham and stole hunting equipment valued at approximately $4500. Included in the stolen property were four cross bows and a 22cal semi-automatic rifle from a locked gun cabinet. The pair transported the stolen property to a residence on Raleigh Street and attempted to sell the rifle in exchange for drugs. Both are currently prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Around 10:30 a.m. police responded to the area of Richmond Street and Lacroix Street for a report of two men carrying weapons. Officers flooded the area however the men were not located.
Through investigation, officers identified the pair responsible. They were taken into custody and the rifle was recovered.
An 18-year-old man and 17-year-old youth, both from Chatham, have been charged with multiple weapon related offences, failing to comply with release conditions, possession of stolen property obtained by a crime under $5000 and break and enter. Both have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
