Tomas Longeway Caught Doing 167 in an 80 While Drunk

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) On Friday May 11, 2012, at shortly before 9 p.m. a Perth County OPP officer driving north bound on Perth Road 163, north of Line 10, observed an approaching south bound car traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.

The officer activated the police radar and locked the vehicle’s speed at 167 km/h, which is 87 km above the 80 km/h posted speed limit. The vehicle, a 2001 Acura was safely pulled over on Line 10. The driver who displayed signs of impairment by alcohol was arrested and transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver failed to provide two breath samples as required by statute.

Tomas Longeway (52) of the Municipality of West Perth has been charged with “impaired operation of a motor vehicle”, “fail to provide breath sample into approved instrument”, and “race a motor vehicle”. He is scheduled to appear in Stratford Court, on June 11, 2012 to answer to these charges. He was also issued a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
