(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Sunday June 16, 2013, shortly after 1 a.m. a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol observed a red Chevrolet pickup truck swerving in its lane on Main St. in Atwood. The truck pulled into the Elma Community Centre where it drove onto a cement curb as the driver was attempting to park.
The officer spoke to the male driver who displayed signs of impairment. The male was arrested and transported to the Palmerston OPP Detachment where he failed two Intoxilyzer Breath Tests.
Steven VANDERVELDE (33) of the Municipality of West Perth has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and operation of a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Listowel on July 17, 2013, to answer to these charges. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for 7 days.
