Computer Repair Scam Nets $700

(ELDERSLIE TWP, ON) – On July 5, 2013 at 2:05 pm, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a fraud report from a resident of Elderslie Township. Over a period of 3 weeks, calls were received from a “technician” reporting problems with the computer that could be fixed remotely for a fee. After an initial payment of $165, the “technician” was able to access bank account information and the total amount taken is $700.

The computer repair scam is a scheme that has been operating for a number of years. If you encounter problems with your computer, contact a reputable computer repair technician for assistance.
