(PARRY SOUND, ON)- The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be out in full force on the Civic Holiday weekend. As in previous years, the local detachment will concentrate on the OPP’s Big 4 when it comes to traffic safety.
Each year at this time thousands of persons travel to our area to enjoy some time off. The key to make this happen is to get to your destination safely. This can only be accomplished by following the rules of the road and driving with care. People need to buckle up and slow down. Exercise caution and patience on the road.
In addition to patrolling our roadways, the Marine Unit will be patrolling our waterways to ensure there is sufficient number of life-jackets or approved personal floatation devices on board. Also, we remind the public to keep alcohol off the water. The West Parry Sound OPP have had 3 water fatalities so far this summer and are hopeful with some proactive tips for boating and swimming people will practice a safety first attitude.
Boaters are urged to wear their life jackets at all times while in a boat, because they have proven to save lives!
Other Safety Tips before heading out on your boat this summer are:
