(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Saturday, August 10 2013 at 8:50 pm, an officer from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a complaint involving a tractor trailer unit and a hitchhiker on Highway 11/17.
The complainant observed a male hitchhiker jump on to a tractor trailer unit while it was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Red River Road. The officer caught up to the tractor trailer unit at Eldorado Beach Road in the Municipality of Shuniah. The officer located the male sitting in the open space behind the tractor and in front of the trailer. The male hitchhiker later admitted that what he did was dangerous.
The male was issued an offence notice for a seatbelt infraction contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
