French fry stands were the target of thieves twice during the past week, as Betty’s chip stand in Braeside was broken into overnight on August 6, followed by The Fry Shack on Stewart St. in Renfrew overnight on August 7. Betty’s Chip’s on River Rd was entered when the thief pried off a screen on a side window sometime between 11:30pm and 4am and gained entry. Inside they stole food. Some food was recovered from neighbouring yards the following day. Provincial constable Hayley Chaplin is continuing to investigate. Meanwhile, on August 8 at approx. 7:30am the owner of The Fry Shack attended and discovered the business had been entered overnight. The business was closed the previous evening at 7:30pm. A rear window was forced open and the thief gained access through the metal bars on the window. Once inside food was removed from both a fridge and freezer, and other items were disturbed. A knapsack was recovered in a backyard nearby on Raglan St N which contained stolen property from the business. Provincial Constable Kyle Mask is continuing to investigate.
Another concession stand, The Ice Shack on Madawaska Blvd in Arnprior was also broken into last week. On Wednesday the owner reported that sometime in the previous two days someone entered the locked business and stole equipment and cash. There is a suspect and Provincial Constable Colleen McGrath is continuing to investigate.
