Trespassers Charged

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON.) Citizens continue to misunderstand simple signs like “No Trespassing”. The law states that unless you have written permission from a landowner you may not enter the property.

Every week the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charges people who are trespassing at a private gravel pit located at Adelaide Street and Sixteen Mile Road. Generally people are fishing illegally, however, recently officers have discovered much more.

On August 23, 2013 at 8:26 a.m. police located two male parties fishing at the property. The males were identified as Gerald CHURCHWARD, age 57 of Elgin, ON and Casey WOLFE, age 59 of London, ON. Both males were issued a Provincial Offence Notice (PON) for the offence of Enter a Premises when Entry is Prohibited as per Section 2(1)((a)(i)) of the Trespass To Property Act (TTPA). Both parties left the scene without incident.

REMEMBER… No Trespassing signs are simple to interpret. The Middlesex County OPP will continue to patrol the area and enforce all laws in relation to this private gravel pit, including the Trespassing to Property Act.
