(BARRIE, ON) – On Saturday September 7th 2013, at 6PM, an officer from the Barrie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was exiting Highway 400 southbound at the Bayfield Street off ramp. As he rounded the bend, a motor vehicle was observed traveling towards him. Two other motor vehicles in front of the officer swerved to avoid the oncoming wrong way driver. The vehicle then attempted a multi-point turn in an attempt to turn itself around. Once the motor vehicle was traveling in the correct direction, the motor vehicle stopped. The driver advised that he did not observe the 5 DO NOT ENTER signs or the one way sign on the off ramp.
As a result of the traffic stop, Grant MARTIN, 18 of Huron Twp was charged with Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
