Shortly before 6:00am this morning police and fire responded to the 2100 block of 5th Avenue East after a neighbour reported that a vehicle was on fire.
Owen Sound Fire was able to extinguish the blaze but not before the vehicle was destroyed. Police contacted the registered owner who had been unaware until police arrived that the vehicle had been stolen. The theft occurred over night in the area of 15th Street B East.
This is the third stolen vehicle from Owen Sound which Police have recovered within the last month. Two of the vehicles were set on fire, by the unknown suspects and one vehicle sustained heavy damage after being driven through an east side playground. In addition, during this time period Police have simultaneously received numerous reports of unlocked vehicles having been entered and personal items stolen.
Police are requesting the assistance from the public for any information pertaining to the thefts from or of the motor vehicles. Police also are reminding residents to be vigilant in locking their motor vehicles and securing all valuables.
