Five Car Collision

On September 15, 2013 at 2:30 p.m., Guelph Police Traffic investigators attended to a five-vehicle chain reaction collision in front of Springfield Golf Course on Gordon Street. Investigation alleges that a line of cars travelling southbound on Gordon Street had come to a stop for a vehicle turning left into the golf course parking lot. A southbound Mercedes failed to stop and consequently set the chain reaction collision in motion. The driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes struck a Hyundai (with two occupants) from behind. This forced the Hyundai into northbound traffic where it glanced off of a Mercedes SUV (carrying two occupants) and coming to rest after striking a Toyota from behind (with two occupants). The force of this impact sent the Toyota into another Toyota from behind which was stationary waiting to make a left turn into the parking lot. This Toyota contained a family of three including a small two-month old baby. All in total, ten people were treated at the scene for various minor injuries. Damage is extensive as two vehicles were demolished and two more had to be towed from the scene. The estimated damage in this collision is $35,000.

A 25 year-old Toronto man is facing a careless driving charge.
