Drinking Drivers Caught At RIDE

(HOWICK, ON) Last night Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers stopped and served two drivers with three day suspensions at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint. Officers had the R.I.D.E checkpoint set up at the intersection of Perth Road 178 and Gorrie Line. At 9:28 p.m. the driver of a Toyota Rav 4 entered the checkpoint, upon speaking with the driver officers noted he had been drinking alcohol. A roadside test was completed which resulted in a warn range suspension.

The 33 year old driver from Howick was issued a 3 day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was towed.

About 10 minutes later the driver of a GMC Sierra pickup entered the R.I.D.E checkpoint with an open bottle of beer. Officers demanded the driver provide a sample of his breath for the roadside test. The driver complied and registered a warn range suspension.

The 55 year old male driver from Howick was served with a three day driver’s licence suspension and a ticket under the Liquor Licence Act for having an open container of alcohol inside the motor vehicle.
